This
item was likely printed from the original vignette plate used
in printing the 90c 1869 issue. Evidence for this is shown viz
a vis the position dot (at the left of the oval). It is printed
on soft, proof paper, and is unlisted in this form. To my knowledge,
this item is unique.
When held
to the light, both this item and the listed item (122-E2b, shown
below, right) reveal an albino image of the large-numeral frame
impressed into the paper. While there is good evidence to suggest
that the frames were printed before the vignettes (to complete
the bi-color printing), a vexing question remains: what purpose
could be served by "printing" an uninked impression of the frame?
