The
frame die for the $50 stamp was likely produced from a relief roll
onto which the $25 frame was transferred. The eagle and shield, scrollwork
at top and bottom, and the value tablet would have been cut away from
this roll prior to transferring the design to a blank die. The $50
design would then have been completed on this newly made die. The
$20, $25 and $50 frames feature the same allegorical scenes of Manufacturing,
Mechanics, Commerce, and Agriculture. The detail in these four images
