The Abraham Lincoln Wing part of the Peter Schwartz Collection |
Printer's Waste or Proof -- or Both?
These two prints were likely made from a compound die or plate of Types P (5-cent Lincoln) and W (1-dollar Washington). You are viewing both sides of a single sheet of paper, the double impression from one side, the single from the other. Is this a bit of salvaged printer's waste, or an actual test print of the compound die/plate? Call it printer's waste and any collector would beg to differ! But printer's waste is more than likely what it is. Click the images to open new windows showing magnified scans.
